Price cap and data cap with Sim Only
What happens when your bundle runs out? With one provider you pay extra, with another your internet stops or slows down. Here is how it works per provider, and how to avoid high costs.
What is a price cap?
When your bundle runs out, many providers charge extra for every MB you use after that: the out-of-bundle rate. A cap prevents that. Providers call it a data cap, cost cap or price cap. With a data cap your internet stops when your bundle runs out, with a cost cap your extra costs stop at a fixed amount.
A data cap only applies to internet. If you call or text more than your bundle, you usually do pay for that. With unlimited calling and texting you don't have that problem. With every provider you get a message when your bundle is almost used up.
